Default How do you get your Buell around when not riding it?

As a military member I get to go home once or twice a year. Currently I am located in VA and my home state is MI. Roughly 900 miles one way trip. I own an 05 Dakota and I want to get the Buell back home while I am on leave to use up in MI.

The bed is not an option because I normally have it loaded down with other items I need to take with me. Here are the two options I have been looking at:

    http://www.discountramps.com/smc-600...er/p/SMC-600R/

    ^ hitch mount motorcycle carrier.
    Pro's: no trailer MX
    Easy storage
    No registration or insurance fees
No added axle fee when traveling
Basically buy it and forget it until you need it and it is there.

Con's: Bike covers trucks tail lights
    relocate license plate
100% of the bike's weight is on the trucks hitch hanging off the back of the truck

    ^ Harbor Freight Trailer.
Pro's: you have a trailer for cargo when not hauling the bike
No excessive weight on the hitch
some models fold for easy storage

    Con's: Cost of insurance/registration fees
    takes up more space
Trailer MX to include tires, wheel bearings, lights ect

I am sure there are pro's and con's that I have missed on both. But what do you use? How does it work for you? Take long trips? I am curious about the hitch carrier if anyone has experience with one.

Any input would be greatly appreciated !

The hitch hauler - I know several guys who use this, and I plan on mounting one on my Chrysler 300 as well. Perfect - no muss, no fuss.

Its nice to hear someone who has experience with the hitch hauler. It seems to be a very interesting topic, most sway away from the hitch hauler idea and lean towards the trailer.

Trailer is an extra hassle to deal with - you just want to make sure your vehicle can handle the tongue weight and it's a snap.

I am pretty sure my truck has a Class 4 hitch on it. It will be the first thing I check once I get back home. If it does I am pretty sure I will end up going with the Hitch Hauler. I have yet to hear anyone speak negatively about it other then those who have not tried one or are against them entirely.

That trailer is ADORABLE! It's freaking awesomely tiny!

That's all. I was curious about the same thing - I wanted to take the blast with me down to the beach (6 hours, wife wants me to ride with her) but I'm not sure if I will or not.

I would go with the mini trailer for my mini truck.

That trailer is awesome! Great idea for the 4X4 HF!!

Anyone else using a trailer set up, post what your using! It would be great to get an idea of how you set the trailer up.

    Thanks for the input guys!
