Me and a coworker got it to run but it sounds rough and if you let off the throttle it dies

This might sound weird but mine kind of did the same thing when my accessory fuse blew (bottom right of fuse block to the right of the spare, 15 amp mini) and i think it was because it ran the auto enricher and would not give power to it causing it to stay open. if you still have a spare 15amp mini in your spare slot try swapping them and see if that helps

and always do the classic test of spraying carb cleaner or starting fluid around the boot, if the motor revs or dies from it its das boot or intake leak

Pretty much. While cranking, if the bike isn't starting, spray the boot (don't want to get any in the carb intake). If the the bike does anything different, ten the boot is bad.

It's better if you can get it started and then spray it, then if the revs increase boot is bad.

Pulling the boot off and physically checking it might show obvious cracks. Spraying the boot will reveal all size cracks.
